The Sogo Active Grants Program has funded numerous youth-led initiatives across the province. The African Diaspora Association of the Maritimes is one community host that has benefited from this program:
“The African Diaspora Association of the Maritimes and its weekly youth group applied for Sogo Active funding to expand the organization’s physical activity program for African immigrant youth living in the areas of Spryfield, Fairview / Clayton Park, and Halifax. ADAM was originally unable to reach out to some youth due to financial constraints. The Sogo grant has boosted the program by providing bus tickets to kids that had been previously unable to access the facilities. This allowed an additional 10 youth to join ADAM’s swimming and soccer program, augmenting the number of kids engaged in physical activity to 35. The funding also enabled the purchase of soccer balls and volleyballs to compensate for the increased number of youth.”
This is just one of the exciting projects that have been funded through Sogo Active. Its unique approach for inspiring “for youth by youth” group activity gives young Canadians the tools to design, change and control their own get active plan.
