Department of Community Services Summer 2010 Camping Program Update

Department of Community Services Summer 2010 Camping Program Update

You may be aware that the Department of Community Services has been working on improving the summer camping program for children, youth and clients with special needs.

Please be assured that the Department of Community Services appreciates how significant the camp experience is to Nova Scotia families. We are working to ensure that all families who previously accessed this service will continue to have this service available to them this summer.

The Department of Community Services is currently in the process of seeking proposals from interested service providers across Nova Scotia to deliver a range of camping services. We are hopeful this will give camp participants and their families both more choices in programming and improved regionally available services.

We will be selecting new service providers based on a Request for Proposal (RFP) process. Two RFPs have been posted on the Province of Nova Scotia Procurement website. https://www.gov.ns.ca/tenders/search/default.asp?XX=10-02-0511:47:11AM

An information session for interested service providers will be held on Feb 17, 2010 at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia. For those outside the HRM who wish to participate via teleconference please contact Ms. Cheryl Watts at 902-424-4283 for details.

RFP applications will be reviewed by selection committee. Once service providers have been determined, a list will be provided to all DCS District Offices and Services to Persons with Disabilities service providers so that they can make referrals to appropriate camps/programs.

As this is a transition year, there is much work to do. We look forward to working with interested service providers to deliver the best possible experience for our children, youth and special needs clients.

Should you have any questions please contact Marika Lathem at 902-424-3787.
