With only one year to go, the Halifax 2011 Canada Games invite you to take part in our Countdown Celebration!
The one year countdown to the Halifax 2011 Canada Games is cause for celebration. And what better way for families and schools to celebrate together than by getting active? The Countdown Celebration begins this February 11, exactly one year from the Opening Ceremonies of the Games, and runs until February 16 – which is being distinguished as Nova Scotia Day at the 2010 Olympics and here at home.
In honour of the countdown, Games venues have offered to open their doors to the community, giving everyone the chance to get active while enjoying the facilities that will soon be host to Canada's future champions. Participants can enjoy free skating, swimming, skiing, curling, and admission to sporting events. Check the official 2011 Countdown Celebration schedule for complete event details and don’t forget to wear your helmet at the rinks and on the hills.
Stop, watch, and take part in the fun as sport demonstrations and interactive games pop-up in unexpected places around HRM. Fans of our facebook page and followers of our twitter account will get tipped off on where/when they’ll take place.
Various schools around HRM and beyond will be catching the spirit of the Canada Games by hosting a Canada Games Day on Feb. 16th. This program offers young people between the ages of four and fourteen an exciting sport and educational experience that mirrors the Canada Games experience enjoyed by Canada’s best young athletes.
Keep your eyes peeled for Anni and Sammi, our official 2011 Games mascots. They will be making many special appearances during our Countdown Celebration.
