Halifax - Schools, community groups, recreation departments, clubs, organizations and businesses across Nova Scotia are signing up to “Take the Roof off Winter”, a physical activity campaign designed to help Nova Scotians of all ages improve their health and quality of life by getting outdoors and being more active this winter.
The campaign, delivered by Recreation Nova Scotia and the Nova Scotia Department of Health Promotion and Protection , runs from December 21st to March 20th. The official launch takes place the first week in January.
”From snowshoe clinics to skating,from Nordic walking to building an outdoor rink or making snow angels in the backyard, communities throughout the province are organizing events, festivals and workshops aimed at getting more people outside and active in winter sports and activities.
Sign up to be a TTROW Supporter! Campaign Supporters are municipalities, community groups, schools, businesses, etc. that agree to coordinate five or more events or activities during the TTROW campaign or organize Winter Walk Day events.
Supporters are recognized on the Take the Roof Off Winter website (www.taketheroofoffwinter.ca), made official members of the RED CAP OUTDOOR CLUB and are provided with Take the Roof Off Winter promotional materials to use and distribute including posters and Take the Roof Off Winter Toques. Winter Walk Day participants also receive Winter Walk Day Kits courtesy of Winter Walk Day partners - Active Safe Routes to School, Heart and Stroke Walkabout and TTROW.
To help groups and organizations participate in the campaign and build more physical activity into their daily routine, NSHPP and RNS have developed the Take the Roof Off Winter website www.TakeTheRoofOffWinter.ca.. The site provides cool tips and ideas on organizing and hosting outdoor events and activities as well as a venue for TTROW supporters and participants to post photos and stories of fun events. In addition, six (6) campaign ambassadors (recreation professionals and volunteers) are available across the province to provide support to groups looking to organize events in their communities.
