June is Recreation Month - The Campaign

Celebrating June is Recreation Month is an exciting way to increase awareness of the benefits of recreation and leisure to the health and well-being of all Nova Scotians.

This province-wide campaign educates and encourages - with the help of media messaging, promotions, toolkits, children's contests and activities - the engagement of municipalities, schools, community groups, families and individuals in more recreation and leisure activities during recreation month and beyond.

The Theme: LIVE IT EVERYDAY!

The campaign theme LIVE IT EVERYDAY!reinforces the message of how important it is for all of us to participate in some form of recreation or leisure activity each and everyday. Regardless of ability or age, Nova Scotians are enjoying recreation in an increasing number of ways. This year's theme recognizes that recreation activities do not have one definition. "Activities of all kinds, not just physical, are acknowledged and celebrated. Whether it's lawn bowling, running a marathon, learning to play a new instrument, reading a book or star gazing ... recreation is about celebrating life and ... Live it Everyday!

Join in the Fun ... Sign Up and Become a June is Recreation Month Supporter

If you are planning to host an event in June, join in the fun and sign up to become a June is Recreation Month supporter. Supporters are communities, schools, groups and/or businesses that agree to host events and/or promote June is Recreation Month. RNS provides all supporters with great giveaways including 10 JRM frisbees or bomerangs, 10 JRM posters and 100 bookmarks. Supporter groups and their events will be posted on the RNS website.

The names of all supporter groups will be entered into a draw for a bike rack generously donated by Henderson Equipment

WOW(or wheel) Plan a walk day!

The summer sun is starting to shine and there is no better time to embrace the outdoors and go for a walk! Schools, youth groups and others are invited to walk to school, have an intentional walk or go for a hike. Pack up the school or work bag, don’t forget active and safe routes and you are ready to go! Walking is fun when you walk together. It's good for our bodies because of the extra physical activity. It's good for the Earth if you walk as transportation because it cuts down on the number of polluting cars on our streets.
