June is Recreation Month - The Campaign
Celebrating June is Recreation Month is an exciting way to increase awareness of the benefits of recreation and leisure to the health and well-being of all Nova Scotians.
This province-wide campaign educates and encourages - with the help of media messaging, promotions, toolkits, children's contests and activities - the engagement of municipalities, schools, community groups, families and individuals in more recreation and leisure activities during recreation month and beyond.
The Theme: LIVE IT EVERYDAY!
The campaign theme
LIVE IT EVERYDAY!reinforces the message of how important it is for all of us to participate in some form of recreation or leisure activity each and everyday. Regardless of ability or age, Nova Scotians are enjoying recreation in an increasing number of ways. This year's theme recognizes that recreation activities do not have one definition. "Activities of all kinds, not just physical, are acknowledged and celebrated. Whether it's lawn bowling, running a marathon, learning to play a new instrument, reading a book or star gazing ... recreation is about celebrating life and ...

WOW(or wheel) Plan a walk day!
The summer sun is starting to shine and there is no better time to embrace the outdoors and go for a walk! Schools, youth groups and others are invited to walk to school, have an intentional walk or go for a hike. Pack up the school or work bag, don’t forget active and safe routes and you are ready to go! Walking is fun when you walk together. It's good for our bodies because of the extra physical activity and it's good for the Earth because it cuts down on the number of polluting cars on our streets.
For more information on how to register for WOW go to http://saferoutesns.ca/index.php/special/wow/ and receive cards, posters and a how-to guide (to get the free merchandise you MUST register online)! On the website there is also some general info about WOW, and online how-to guide and curriculum links for P-6.

June is Recreation Month in Chester!
Thanks to Nova Scotia Egg Producers and Atlantica Hotels, RNS and Breakfast Television were able to give away prizes to people being active in Chester on June 14th! Cyril Lunney from BT helped us surprise the Pharmasave Walking Club, the Sadhana Center, the Chester Family Center, and the Chester Golf Club. We gave out a lot of great prizes so live it everyday by getting out, getting active, and having fun and you just might get caught too!
