Preconference Sessions: At-A-Glance.
We have a number of sessions available at the 2019 Preconference. The Nova Scotia Outdoor Network will be hosting an experiential workshop led by Heartwood Centre for Community Development along with a networking lunch, all taking place in Victoria Park. The workshop titled 'Exploring Ways for your Organization to Engage Youth in the Outdoors' will help increase your awareness of youth engagement and experiential learning in an outdoor setting. A BYO Lunch will also be at Victoria Park held by the NSON Leadership Team to faciltiate networking in the sector. Register HERE.
HIGHFIVE trainers are invited to take part in a pilot focus group in review of the 'Principles of Healthy Child Development' training. This session is taking place at The Glengarry Hotel in Truro but pre-registration is required. Lunch will be provided. Register HERE. *UPDATE (3PM ON 17TH SEPTEMBER): THIS WORKSHOP IS NOW FULL. We are also looking forward to hosting Alan Warner and Tineke Weld (Acadia University) who will be running a 3 hour workshop - 'Beyond Babysitting: Challenges and Pathways to Strengthening Quality in Municipal Summer Day Camp Programs'. After lunch, Bill VanGorder from Nordic Walking Nova Scotia will be running an introduction to Nordic Walking. This practical session will give everyone a chance to learn how to correctly use the equipment in order to get the benefits of this fast-growing activity as well as how to offer this activity to people within your community. Lastly, Heart & Stroke Foundation will be hosting training on their new resource 'HeartSmart Kids' (HSK). This is a new resource aimed at improving health literacy with indigenous youth.
