Eligibility Criteria

• All applicants must be member in good standing with Recreation Nova Scotia.
• There is a professional category, and a volunteer category.

Category 1A: Professional Development Bursary – Student (Registered in a post-secondary program related to recreation)

Eligible Opportunities include:

  • All training programs
  • Practical research projects
  • Seminars
  • Study tours
  • Non-traditional conferences

Opportunities that are not eligible include:

  • Recreation Nova Scotia hosted events. (Annual RNS Conference, RNS Symposiums and Events that are co-hosted by RNS)

Category 1B: Professional Development Bursary – Non-Student

Eligible Opportunities include:

  • All training programs
  • Practical research projects
  • Seminars
  • Study tours
  • Non-traditional conferences

Category 2: Academic Bursary

• All applicants must be either a member in good standing with Recreation Nova Scotia and residing in Nova Scotia, or an immediate family member of a member in good standing.

Note: Group, business and municipal members cannot transfer bursary eligibility to any member of their group/business/municipality, who is not registered as the official/designated member(s) with RNS.

Acceptable Programs

Category 1: Professional Development Bursary opportunities: All training programs, practical research projects, seminars, non-traditional conferences and study tours will be acceptable

Category 2: Academic Bursary: Registering in a recognized University or College degree or diploma program, related to the field of recreation.

Application Information

There will be up to two allocation periods in any one fiscal year. The first allocation period shall be in June, with nominations due on May 31st. If the maximum of $2500 is not distributed at that time, there will be a second review and allocation period in January with an application deadline of December 31st. The RNS Awards Adjudication Committee oversees the selection process. Applicants will receive written notification of the decision within three weeks of the application deadline.

The recipient(s) will be announced and presented at the Annual Recreation Nova Scotia Conference and further recognition given through the RNS newsletter and AGM.
