Move More

Move More

Move more is an 8 week recreation program that combines interactive presentations and discussions on health related topics with fun opportunities to sample various local physical activities. It is geared towards adult participants who are not currently active, and provides basic information on how to build physical activity into heir daily life.

Move More is carried out over 8 sessions, each lasting 1-2 hours a week (50% information/guest speaker sessions and 50% physical activity sampling). Topics covered are:

  • Session 1: Introducing Physical Activity into Your Life
  • Session 2: Breaking Down Barriers to Activity
  • Session 3: Activity Myths
  • Session 4: Motivation & More
  • Session 5: Stress
  • Session 6: Activity & Good Health
  • Session 7: Self Esteem
  • Session 8: Discovering Community & Physical Activity Opportunities

The Move More program can be run in a variety of settings, including parent education centres, workplace wellness initiatives, fitness facilities, recreation centres, local community halls, seniors centers, and hospitals. To be responsive to the participants' needs, there is flexibility in the content and delivery of the course. As well, this course has been highly subsidized to keep registration costs low and to facilitate access to all populations.

Important Information for Leaders and Providers!

The NS Department of Health Promotion and Protection is offering grants through its PROVINCIAL PHYSICAL ACTIVITY/RECREATION DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM.

This program is designed to support activities that respond to the goals and priorities of provincial organizations and PHYSICAL ACTIVITY, SPORT & RECREATION (PASR) priority areas including: reaching inactive populations through accessible physical activity and recreation opportunities; building capacity within communities and organizations; supporting volunteer capacity development; encouraging fair and safe activities; and responding to underserved populations. Priority populations include adolescents/youth, older adults and their families.

This funding could potentially be used to cover registration costs to train Move More leaders in your community, or to assist with costs associated with running a Move More program.
