On June 9, 2008, Recreation Nova Scotia celebrated its 10th Anniversary by hosting a luncheon fundraiser which raised over $6000 for RNS programs Everybody Gets to Play and HIGH FIVE. Over 200 people were in attendance representing schools, goverment, health authorities, private business and more, to support these programs and hear keynote speaker, Max Valiquette. Max's presentation, "Connecting With Our Kids - Social Marketing and Youth" provided great insight into youth culture and how to reach this important demographic.

The Sogo Active Grants Program has funded numerous youth-led initiatives across the province. These grants of up to $500 can go towards equipment costs, facility rental, transportation, nutrition, coaching/instruction, etc., to assist Community Hosts and youth groups with their physical activity programs. The photos in this gallery represent just some of the exciting projects that have been funded through Sogo Active.
Sogo Active is presented by Coca-Cola in collaboration with ParticipACTION, and is hosted in Nova Scotia by Recreation Nova Scotia and Sport Nova Scotia. The Olympic torch relay passed through Nova Scotia from November 16 to 21, 2009. Sogo Active, a national program that helps youth aged 16 to 19 get physically active, had two torchbearer teams from the Municipality of Guysborough and Active Halifax Communities participating in the run. Numerous individual Sogo Active youth from around the province were also chosen to run with the torch. Photos in this gallery are from the Municipality of Guysborough and Active Halifax Communities teams' run of a lifetime.
