CALL FOR PROPOSALS – Atlantic Canada Active Transportation Summit

CALL FOR PROPOSALS – Atlantic Canada Active Transportation Summit, May 23-24, Halifax, NS

The Union of Nova Scotia Municipalities (UNSM), in partnership with the Province of Nova Scotia and the Halifax Regional Municipality, has planned the first Atlantic Canada Active Transportation Summit to be held on May 23-24, 2018 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. This two-day event at the beautiful Halifax Central Library will host guest speakers from across Atlantic Canada and elsewhere to inspire attendees. The attached poster has some additional information. Further information on registration and the preliminary program will be communicated online and by email in March.

We are now seeking proposals for presentations. Our goal is to share information on all types of active transportation projects and plans happening in Atlantic Canada (or that are transferable to Atlantic Canadian communities).

We want to be able to share information on walking and bicycling projects and plans that cover:

  • What is working (or not)?
  • What have you learned?
  • What are your plans going forward?

We are open to all approaches to making it easier and safer to walk, bicycle and wheel, related to:

o  accessibility for people with impairments  o  marketing for behaviour-change
o  equity for under-represented populations o  economic case for community or business
o  complete streets o  transportation demand management
o  rural active transportation o  injury prevention and safety
o  site data collection and monitoring methods o  programs and services to support use
o policy (public, for-profit or non-profit sectors) o  infrastructure or amenities

If interested, please see the poster below/attached and submit a paragraph of 300 words summarizing your proposed presentation to by February 21, 2018.

Please share this with anyone in Atlantic Canada who may be interested.
